Liberal Redneck - Muslim Ban

transmorpher says...

My counter is the previously mentioned authors who have spent there lives researching and living the things they write about. I'm not referring to their work to be condescending or to have a pissing contest. I've mentioned previously that anything I say will just be a poor regurgitation of their work, and it's a massive time saver for both of us when I can just refer you to them.

Yes I have an agenda. It's to stop this madness from both the left and right. The right are a lost cause, but the left can get there.

@transmorpher
i would say we disagree but i cant even say that.
you didn't counter ANYTHING i said, you just accused me of being dishonest.

which has been pretty much your position this entire thread.i thought i was doing you a solid by laying down some history, which helps explain some facets of radical islam.

notice my wording:facets.

do you realize that i taught comparative religion and cultural religious history?
do you realize just how foolish you appear to me right now?

you want to counter my argument....by not countering my argument, and implying i am being dishonest.

ok sweetheart,
i think i see the problem here.
YOU are seeing the dynamic through a singular lens.

you want to ignore the historical implications and simply focus on islam itself?
ok,that's fine.
i find it stupid, short sighted and incredibly biased, but whatever..

yoooou have an agenda to get to don't ya?

ok.
then let us just strip the dynamic of ALL historical implications and focus solely on islam itself.
(which is why you mentioned Maajid Nawaz, and Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Sam Harris, Hitchens )
you clever clever boy...
i see what you did there../ruffles hair.
you are SO adorable when you are being myopic and lazy!

so what would you like to discuss?
how islam is in desperate need of a reformation?
or maybe how the original intent of islam from a spiritual perspective was hi-jacked by his cousins and turned into a political conquest machine, that subjugated ...

you know what?
why am i bothering?
you have revealed yourself to be a condescending, sanctimonious know-nothing.who read a couple of books and thinks he 'get's it".

no dude..you read sam harris.

look man,
i am not here defending islam, because as religions go,islam is kinda shit.
but to ignore how neoliberalism and american interventionism have amplified, and worsened and already crappy situation.

that's not even intellectually dishonest.
that is just plain lazy.

whats next?
you gonna do some 'thought experiments" and try to argue that at least america's "intentions" were nobel?

you WERE! weren't you!!

and this little revisionist nugget "Those countries have had problems long before any western intervention."

oooh really?
because, unlike YOU,i actually know the history of that region.
so if you want we can compare how some cities and countries were considered "progressive" and even "liberal",and even some (granted, only a few) that were considered "secular" *gasp*.

how about this, instead of me repeatedly taking you to the woodshed to give ya some of that "learnin",how about you just go look up the history of kabul, afghanistan.

that's it.just one city.

and then come back and tell me that neoliberalism, colonialism and good old fashioned empire building hasn't been a major force in the rise in fundamentalism and radicalization in the middle east.

it looks like you really ARE going to make go all the way back to the dark ages!

and dude..seriously..hitchens ROCKED,but sam harris?
no..juuust no.
i don't do apologists as a counter argument.

edit:i will say that i agree with this "There are actual muslims (such as Maajid Nawaz)that say islam has a problem(especially particular strands of it), and it needs reform. Embracing the muslims who want reform is the only way forward."

you mean that islam may need a reformation?
*gasps*/clasps hands to face.
didn't i fucking already SAY that?

ah well, foiled by my pedantic ways.

That's very interesting for movies, I think. This shit runs with batteries and weights just a few pounds. Just think of the applications regarding lighting movie sets, especially outdoors at night. Could be a big cost and time saver.

Are the police out of control?

newtboy says...

This video seemed to be searching for sympathy and understanding for the poor abusive cops. Of course it makes a claim that they all took the job altruistically to help people but dealing with the public made them all turn into violent criminal dickheads that hate all non-cops. (not) If that were the case, why do other professions with more, worse contact with the public and no authority, training, equipment, or 'legal rights' (or more often the ability to get away with illegal inappropriate activity) to do anything about it not have similar instances of outrageous inappropriate violent conduct...or the rest of their profession creating a (pick your color) wall around them to protect the 'bad apples' in the profession rather than get rid of them. If 'unpleasant contact' with the public was an excuse for poor behavior, why do we not have people attacked at the DMV daily?
I have 2 things to say about that. First, if some unpleasant contact is going to make you paint all the public in the same 'criminal/opponent' light, you are not the right kind of person to be a cop. Second, if unpleasant contact IS making you feel the public is against you, CREATE some POSITIVE contact with the public. As the 'authority', it's up to YOU to create and control the tenor of your contacts and conduct. (you yourself, @lantern53 have repeatedly said it comes from 'above', like the chief) That goes for each contact, the 'authority' is in control, and is responsible for the tone of the contact.

Cops don't have the worst position dealing with the public on average (but on rare occasions may have the worst dealings). Cops don't have the most dangerous job by a long shot. The thing that most separates cops from other professions is their ability to get away with their illegal bad behaviors. That should change, a non-police group (like a grand jury) should investigate each and every use of force and prosecute any that are even questionable (if you did nothing wrong, fight it in court, your words, right? What's good for the goose....). That would stop most use of force (as it no longer lets them hide it from prosecution, and even legal force would no longer be a 'time saver' since it would put them under time wasting suspicion at least, indictment at best).

I like the new political correctness.

If you hate other races, you're a racist.
If you love other races, you're a racist.
If you agree with other races, you're a racist.
If you disagree with other races, you're a racist.

What a time-saver!

A look at the t-shirt as a form of free speech

spoco2 says...

This was actually really good.

First they had on a guy who makes t-shirts which I basically agree with, and they're talking about free speech etc.

And then they bring out the right wing guy who has utterly disgusting things on his t-shirts (how insanely war happy is he?)... BUT, that comes with the territory. He can have them, it's free speech, plus it makes it easy for me to spot people I have NO INTEREST in ever being friends with... so it's a time saver too

Anti-DLC Battlefield Bad Company Trailer

MaxWilder says...

Now wait just a minute. They're twisting the words to make it sound worse than it is. From what I understand, you can pay more to have some of the advantages that it would normally take many hours of play to unlock. It's a time saver, not something that's only available through DLC. There are already a number of examples where extra goodies are purchased after buying the game, but none of them are designed to put those who spend more on a different level of gameplay.

Not that I condone all the stuff they're selling now. Some of it was clearly withheld from the game in order to squeeze a few more bucks from customers, but that is not very common, and gamers will not put up with it if the publishers go too far.

Ignoring Member Comments (Sift Talk Post)

10722 says...

At least this current implementation is opt-in, rather than 'opt-out', so nothing is forced on you. I won't be using it, but I can see it's useful to stop personal profile/message abuse...

If there was a group of people on this site who are mainly concerned with voting for every video a member of their 'gang' posts, whilst only reading posts from other members of said group... this function should be useful for them to avoid any criticism creeping into their self-congratulatory 'pet-fests' (yes, I just made that phrase up - I think).

If such a group of people did exist, then they are probably immune to logical and valid discussion.. this new ignore function could be a big time saver for everyone.

Fuck HP, and Fuck M$, but Fuck HP more (Blog Entry by MarineGunrock)

dgandhi says...

This really is the fault of MS, it's their product that will not accept it's own validation key. If MS printed a sticker with a code that code better damn well work.

Zeph: In my experience they always ship vanilla install disks when you buy a machine, the result of a clean reinstall of an Win-OS is always fraught with issues not seen in the factory optimized version which came pre-installed.

If you plan to keep a MS-OS always create a full backup image of the disk right after you install your software, it hogs some back up drive space, but it's a massive time saver in the long run.

Sifters of Interest (Sift Talk Post)

Issykitty says...

blankfist! I think you are speaking what I've been thinking for a while, only I didn't think to put it to a Sift Talk post! Maybe a private friends listing that you can put somewhere on your page just for the purposes you stated above. That would definitely be a time-saver in order to view your siftin' friends' profile pages with ease. That would be cool. Not that Videosift isn't already super-awesome-cool, of course!
