Neal Peart of RUSH discussing LimeLight and vocal timing

chingalera says...

Peart, Terry Bozzio, Ginger Baker and Kieth Moon have always been my favorites for sheer energy in execution, improvisation, and texture. John Bonham was fun to listen to and watch, too. Surprisingly, I sat mesmerized by Charlie Watts at this show in 79' in Dallas where the band was Page, Clapton, and Beck all jamming with Entwistle on bass and Watts on drums. He looks like a tax collector sitting there but busts out an incredible envelop of rhythm with the precision of a Swiss timepiece on a minimalist kit.

Actually, I have to say Freddie had a reasonably profound effect on my world view. When I discovered he was gay, I was a typically bigoted ignorant young teenage male (the fact that I didn't realise he was gay probably tells you as much as you need to know about me at that age).
I only found out he was "a queer" when he died, but I'd always thought his voice and music were epic. It forced to re-evaluate my stereo-typed view of the world, which lead to a number of important epiphanies in my life.

I don't believe in an afterlife, but if I'm wrong, I hope he's up there jamming with Hendrix, John Bonham and John Entwistle.

Won't Get Fooled Again--The Who (1978 AND 2005 at same time)

Two things: First, the reality of seeing Moon and Entwistle together within 3 seconds was quite a shock. Damn.

Second, snoozedoc, I saw the same tour. I was in Kansas City. My wife had never seen either and after Carl Palmer's solo she turned to me, mouth agape and said, "did you see that?!"

I love it.

If you're a bassist, there are not many folks more inspirational than Geddy Lee!

Gotta ask: have you ever seen Gov't Mule's "Rising Low" DVD? After their bassist, Allen Woody, died, Warren Haynes (my hero started a tribute project, during which he gathered some of the best bass players in the world together to play Allen Woody's Gov't Mule parts, as well as their own signature pieces, live and on a tribute album. The result was "The Deep End" (a 2 volume CD set) and "Rising Low" (a DVD capturing the making of the CDs, and the resulting tour): http://www.mule.net/discography/rising_low.html

Here's the list of bassists on the DVD / CDs: Allen Woody, Alphonso Johnson, Bootsy Collins, Billy Cox, Chris Squire, Chris Wood, Dave Schools, Flea, George Porter Jr., Jack Bruce, Jack Casady, Joey Arkenstat, John Entwistle, Terry Graham, Les Claypool, Meshell Ndegeocello, Mike Gordon, Mike Watt, Oteil Burbridge, Phil Lesh, Rocco Prestia, Roger Glover, Stefan Lessard, Tony Levin, Willie Weeks

The Who - Shakin' All Over

It's the Who, live in concert. There is nothing else to say.

The Who are an English rock band that first came to prominence in the 1960s. They grew to be considered one of the greatest and most influential rock bands of all time, in addition to being "possibly the greatest live band ever."

The group originally had four members, but drummer Keith Moon died in 1978 and bassist John Entwistle in 2002. The two remaining members, guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Pete Townshend and vocalist Roger Daltrey, continue to perform as The Who. Their most recent studio album, Endless Wire, was released in 2006. The Who are #8 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock, #9 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Rock 'n' Roll and the #8 artist of all time on acclaimedmusic.net.

From mod rockers to rock operas to hard rock, The Who reigned triumphant as prime contenders, in the minds of many, for the title of World's Greatest Rock Band. - The Who's display at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
