yeah. i remember my dad telling me that Ravel had widely admitted that it was a rush job, and not his most imaginative work.

bolero was written to the rhythm of a windmill turning nearby.
written on his piano, so i assume he couldn't help but write it to that rhythm if the sound of it was penetrating the walls of the room where his piano was...
